πHave you ever wondered about the lives and struggles of prostitutes, their unacceptable existence and societal stigma? Do you think sex workers willingly choose their profession rather than being pushed into it? What would happen if they try to come clean and start a different life?
πOur protagonists are Arun Kumar, a best-selling, middle-class author and Lalita, who works in the redlight areas. In the reel world of social media, Arun had lakhs of fan followers, but in his real-life he has only himself and his best friend Vishal. Lalita is a very young girl, who was cheated and forced into prostitution by her ex-boyfriend. She works in Kolkata and runs into Arun Kumar in a hotel where he’s staying for his book launch. What started as a massage for back ache turns to Arun getting to know more about Lalita’s life, how she came into sex work and so on.
πArun somehow manages to bring her to his hometown Pune and decides to admit her in a rehabilitation center for women. While Lalita struggles to adjust to her new life and her feelings for Arun, Arun is pulled into his tumultuous past with his ex-wife Kajal. Will Kajal and Arun ever reconcile? How will Lalita accept her reality?
π”Hate the sin, not the sinner.”The characters are beautifully portrayed with such depth into their feelings while coming across a sex worker, so that we don’t form any misconceptions. Lalita is also shown not as a prostitute, rather as a lady with respect and a will to live life! Kudos to Ajay sir for writing this powerful and moving book. The ending left me stunned and I was trying to recollect whether did I even imagine such a climax!
π Towards the end, I wished the author could have written more about how well Lalita carried herself despite her feelings for Arun. I would definitely recommend this heartwarming tale of acceptance, love and understanding!”CALL A PROSTITUTE A LADY!”
